Parent Governor Vacancy

We are seeking new parent governors to join our welcoming governing body.

Our governors come from a range of backgrounds, with different skills and experience, all sharing the common interest of wanting the best possible education for the children in our schools.

We are inviting parents to stand for election as a parent governor for Drapers’ Brookside Infant & Junior Schools, or to nominate another parent to do so. We currently have two vacancies, and the term of office is four years. Please see the below advert which explains the role of the Trust’s Local Governing Board.

Who can stand for election?

To be able to volunteer, you need to be a parent, carer (or someone who has parental responsibility) for a child at the Drapers’ Brookside Infant or Junior Schools. You do not need any specific qualifications. The below eligibility sheet summarises the circumstances under which someone cannot serve as a parent governor.

To fulfil the role, you will need to:

  • attend regular meetings (around 4 each year)
  • visit the schools occasionally
  • do some background reading
  • take part in induction training and ongoing development (which will be provided for you)

How to apply

If you would like to apply, please complete the below nomination form and return it to Janet Ward, Trust Governance Professional and Returning Officer, jward@drapers-schools.com by 3.00 p.m. on Monday 28th April 2025. If you are putting someone else forward for nomination please make sure they are happy for you to do so.

If there are more nominations than vacancies, we will conduct a secret ballot. If that is necessary, voting papers and instructions will be sent to all parents and carers.

If you are interested in finding out more, please contact Janet Ward, Governance Professional (jward@drapers-schools.com / 01708 371331 Ext 503)
