Modern Foreign Languages
Our Modern Foreign Language curriculum aims to broaden the horizons of our children, learning not only another language but the appreciation of other cultures.
"Language is the road map of a culture. It tells you where its people come from and where they are going."
Rita Mae Brown
In learning another language, it is hoped that pupils will not only be provided with the tools to communicate with people from other cultures, but will also develop a deeper understanding of their own language and the concepts covered in the English curriculum. Lessons will have an interactive focus, with ample opportunities for speaking, listening, reading and writing, as well as appreciation of cultural aspects such as food and festivals. These positive interactions with early second-language learning will provide solid foundations on which pupils can continue to build as they move into Key Stage 3.
Our Modern Foreign Language Curriculum Implementation
The French scheme of work is based on the skills and knowledge progressions used in the Twinkl Planit resource. We use a range of strategies to teach French successfully in school, including resources which are aimed at supporting non-specialist subject teachers in delivering high quality lessons. As pupils move into Upper Key Stage 2, a subject specialist oversees curriculum delivery through video lessons, supporting class teachers in delivering more complex and ambitious topics.
